How long have you worked for Wessex Water?
I joined Wessex Water in June 2021.
How did you apply?
A family member who continues to work for the company told me of the available position and I applied through the Wessex Water careers website.
What attracted you to Wessex Water in the first place?
I was referred to Wessex Water by a family member, and I got a positive impression of the company through their feedback. With no previous experience, I had an interest in the role immediately, and I saw the position of a Sewer Asset Surveying Operative as a way of developing my career within a well-established company.
The progression path that Wessex Water offers and the way they treat their employees highlighted they encourage a healthy and positive work environment.
What does your job entail and what do you most enjoy about the role?
As a Sewer Asset Surveying Team Leader, my role is to survey the sewer network and identify any defects or locations requiring repairs. This information is then forwarded to the relevant departments or customers.
Important parts of my job include health and safety, communicating with members of the public, and time management.
I enjoy the challenge of solving problems as well as the sense of accomplishment that comes with finding a solution and putting a smile on a customer’s face. Witnessing the positive impact my work has on customers is fulfilling.
Tell us about your team and what you like most about working with them
Since starting at Wessex Water everyone I have met and worked alongside has been incredibly helpful in assisting me develop my skills. I have worked with a number of people in both my previous and current role. This has enabled me to increase my communication skills and improve my ability to adapt and adjust to changing situations.
The trust I have received from my superiors has allowed me to expand my confidence which has resulted in me developing both professionally and personally.
Why do you think Wessex Water is a great place to work?
The culture of Wessex Water and its collaborative environment means I can really connect with people in the industry. It has enabled me to work with talented and passionate people, who have a willingness to share their expertise, allowing everyone to grow. This collective atmosphere means my skills and knowledge have developed quickly, allowing me to challenge myself and progress in my career; gaining a promotion after just one year and taking on more responsibility.
Since being employed at Wessex Water I have made friends both in and outside of the company. There are many benefits to working here too, including a great pension scheme.
What do you enjoy most when not working?
When I’m not working, I enjoy going to London and I regularly watch Arsenal play football live with friends and family. I also have a rescue dog called Axel, who I enjoy going on walks with around the countryside.
I have a key interest in travelling around the world and plan to visit as many countries as I possibly can. I recently completed a road trip around Europe visiting 7 countries. This also included stopping at many war memorial sites, which is something I have wanted to do for a long time.
