Tim, South Wiltshire Water Recycling Centre Manager
How long have you worked for Wessex Water?
I have worked for Wessex Water for 16 years.
How did you apply?
I saw the advert on a job search website.
What attracted you to Wessex Water in the first place?
The things that attracted me to Wessex Water were the varied types of job roles the company had to offer. After a close look, I found the role of a Wastewater Operator to be interesting and also rewarding in the fact you were making a positive difference to the water quality entering the environment.
What does your job entail and what do you most enjoy about the role?
I have recently become a Water Recycling Area Manager within the north division of the company, so I manage a number of water recycling centres, with a team of eight people to ensure compliance standards are met.
I also have to ensure that my team have a safe place to work, whilst operating within budget. The thing I enjoy the most about my role is the fact we are making a positive impact to protect watercourses. Also for me, every day is an exciting new challenge, and no day is the same.
Tell us about your team and what you like most about working with them
I have a team of eight people working within my area. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they are always willing to lend each other a hand. It makes me proud to see them pulling together as a team to ensure we achieve the task at hand and adapt to our changing ways of work. I also admire their willingness to accept and take on a challenge and see it through to the end.
My colleagues within Wessex Water are friendly, supportive and have positive attitudes which makes it an enjoyable place to work.
Why do you think Wessex Water is a great place to work?
I think Wessex Water is a great place to work because of the friendly people within the company. You get treated with respect by your colleagues, it’s a friendly atmosphere to work in and everyone is willing to help each other which allows people to be happy at work.
There is also a large number of training programmes that are available to employees to ensure they are fully trained and can fulfil their job role to the best of their ability, as well as supportive courses to help you achieve your progression goals.
What do you enjoy most when not working?
When I am not at work, I like to spend my time with my two kids, going on days out or chilling at home with them. I enjoy seeing other family members, socialising with friends, and playing five-a-side football. I have also recently started going course/carp fishing again which I had stopped a few years ago.
