Tommy, Repair and Maintenance Leader

How long have you worked for Wessex Water?

I have worked at Wessex Water for nearly five years now.

How did you apply?

I found my role through the apprenticeship programme introduced through my school at the time.

What attracted you to Wessex Water in the first place?

I believed it was a career for life that I could progress in and develop through the company and develop new life skills. Their reputation has also always been very good.

What does your job entail and what do you most enjoy about the role?

I am a Team Leader in the Repair and Maintenance (R&M) team, and I fix burst mains, replace service pipes and install stop taps and meters. I enjoy feeling relied upon and getting to meet and chat with customers and other departments within the business. I also get a good sense of satisfaction from completing work and having pride in my work.

Tell us about your team and what you like most about working with them

Working in the R&M team and completing standby duties is more than a full-time job - it feels like a family. I have support from my colleagues whenever I need it, both at work and outside of work. We have developed a good working relationship within the depot and we work hard but also have a laugh in the downtime.

Why do you think Wessex Water is a great place to work?

Wessex Water has a very friendly workforce and everyone at all levels talks to you with respect and friendliness. The benefits that come with the job are very good and have helped me during my time, including the rewards gateway and discounts for employees. While going through some personal family issues, Wessex Water was very understanding and supported me throughout the whole experience and I will always be thankful.

What do you enjoy most when not working?

I enjoy motocross and love nothing more than being out on a bike. I also enjoy socialising with my friends and going out, including the cinema and eating out. I love cars and have a passion for anything related to motorsports.
